About Worship The Lutheran Church is a LITURGICAL church which means that our worship is patterned after the historic, liturgy of the Church.  We worship this way because the liturgy is biblical (the content of the liturgy is almost exclusively direct quotation from Scripture), it is Christ-centered, it helps us to show awe and reverence for God, and it connects us to Christians all over the world and throughout history.

At St. Paul's, we use a combination of traditional liturgical worship and contemporary liturgies.  We sing traditional hymns as well as contemporary songs of praise!  Our worship attempts to blend the old and the new together in a way that is accessible to young and old alike.

CHILDREN IN WORSHIP - Children are an important part of worship, and we encourage children to be a part of worship and to sit with their families.  We offer a time for special messages directed at children in the service and make an effort to involve children in worship in other creative ways.

THE SEASONS OF THE CHURCH YEAR - Our worship during the year is shaped by the church calendar, a rich tradition which is based on the life of Jesus Christ.  Each year we follow the rhythm of the church year with its different emphases.

  • The Church Year begins with the Season of Advent. During this season, we prepare our hearts for Jesus Christ coming.
  • At Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus with the surprising news that God took on flesh to save His people from their sins.
  • During Epiphany God reveals Jesus as His Son through His earthly ministry including His Baptism and Transfiguration.
  • During Lent we are led with Jesus to the cross where He will die for the sins of the world.
  • Maundy Thursday, during Holy Week, we share with Jesus His last will and Testament given in the Lord's Supper.
  • On Good Friday we see Jesus give His life for us.
  • On Easter Sunday we celebrate His resurrection glory.
  • Forty days later, we celebrate His Ascension into heaven
  • And on Pentecost we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit that our risen Lord sends to His disciples, which we takes us back to Advent.
